  8. Although the hospital Emergency Department (ED) may not come to mind as a venue for end-of-life care, dying patients do frequently present to EDs in the final hours or days of life. In this presentation, Dr. Derse will examine the role of ethics and law in ED care at the end of life. He will describe the general consensus about end-of-life care in the ED, point out pitfalls in that consensus, and analyze current and emerging areas of controversy.
